Joshua Holland is off this week, so we've put together a Best Of show from the archives, with three segments that are relevant today.
With the shutdown this week, there has been a lot of talk of how the tea parties are like the Confederates of old -- this standof has been called "secession by other means." So we start out with an interview from 2012 with Chuck Thompson, author of Better Off Without 'Em: a Northern Manifesto for Southern Secession.
Then, with Washington turning toward yet another battle over budgets and public spending, we decided to run another segment from 2012: Time Magazine's Michael Grunwald, talking about his book about the 2009 stimulus called, The New New Deal: the Hidden Story of Change in the Obama Era.
Finally, with talk of immigration reform in the papers again, we decided to run an excellent interview with Bill Ong Hing, an expert on the subject at the University of San Francisco School of Law.
